Hi-Rez Art

Why I can't Upload Higher Resolution Versions of My Art

Thanks to everyone who has sent such kind messages since I joined yesterday.  Sadly, i cannot post higher-rez versions of my art, as certain nefarious types download them, make prints, and sell them on eBay and the like without permission from me or the copyright holders.

So, it's the "A Few Rotten Apples" excuse.

Also, thanks to everyone for the kind words about my damaged hand.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this specifically, but I think that DA offers a DA watermark when you do your uploads to help protect your artwork. When you select the file you want to upload and DA loads the preview in "What File?", there's an option for "show watermark in the fullview image".

Or you could just dumb-down the dpi on the image to make it unprintable.

Take care *.* I think that you could upload some higher resolution images, but just throw watermarks all over them? I love seeing your work a bit closer.

maybe add a huge watermark across the image then? i know it's annoying but some of us would like to enjoy the high rez work you put into this.

just a suggestion!

I don't blame you either. I've dealt with a few of those people too.

See you at Fallcon, I suppose?

AH! Post some of your Red Sonja stuff! I forgot to mention that!
And Wonder Woman! She's the one who you got me hooked on, friend! Your WW is what made superheroes come to life in fiction for me.

Oh my hell, I've waited for this day for so god. You are my absolute favorite artist of all time, of all genres. I collect your comic art just like many do...yay! I still can't believe you're here! It makes me so effing happy!

I'm speechless...really. I hope I can meet you one day.

I am very glad to see your work on Deviant art. I understand how you feel about having your work stolen and sold on ebay. I have had people use my art on there own personal websites and to make really crappy animated gifs out of it and trust me it was pretty irritating. None the less, I am glad it doesn't stop you from sharing your work with the DA community. Welcome! I hope you start a print account that would be BAD ASS!!

Hmm, I'd really love to see your art at a higher resolution, because there is so much to learn from really being able to see those amazing and wonderful pencils and inks you do.

What I would do: Upload a very small resolution image without watermark or anything, just so the image is visible once, even if only very tiny. And then upload a larger resolution version of only part of that image, e.g. the image with a VERY broad white stripe over it. That way no-one will be able to retouch your art and sell it, but those of us interested in your technique would still be able to see examples of it in part of your art.

Anyway, I'm surprised and glad that you joined DA, and I sure hope that you will share with us some thoughts and insights into your life and workshop.

All the best!

That sucks. It's amazing to see your stuff clearly. I despise scavengers for many reasons, and the one you stated TOPS my list.

Oh well. I'll take Hughes any way I can!
