There will be designated signing times, because I can't get any sketching done if I get asked every 5 minutes to sign "just one comic, come on....." The designated signing times are the first and last hours of the show, each day. I don't know the show hours; please refer to the above link to find out that info.

If you want a sketch:

Prices range from $200 to $400 for sketches done in pencil, PITT Pen and COPIC marker.

C2E2 in Chicago was a big success!  My heartfelt thanks to all who helped make it a wonderful weekend.  Looking forward to WonderCon in San Francisco in 9 days!

We raised $1861.21 for disaster relief in Japan, also.  People were wonderful, donating more than the minimum $5.  People can be really nice!

As for the people I've heard criticizing the Japan aid effort because "Japan's a First World nation; they can afford to fix their own damages": I hope if your house burns down, your neighbors don't bother to help you.  When the Mexican army came to New Orleans and operated on American soil for the first time since the War with Mexico in the mid-19th century, I don't think any Americans refused the much-needed help. First World, Third World, it doesn't matter: human suffering is universal.  As Shaun of the Dead quoted Bertrand Russell: "“The only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation.”

Also, Hachi the dog now has 30 applicants, trying to take him home; that's 5 times as many as have tried in the last 18 months.  Yay, for the Milk of Human Kindness!

Finally, the poor, dumb son of a bitch who openly criticized me for bringing awareness to a dog's plight sent a sort of apology, privately.  I'm not sure he completely understands why everyone is so upset with his behavior, but he nutted up and did a man's job and asked me to accept his explanation & apology.  My heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported me by voicing their displeasure to this gentleman; you can stop sending him messages now.    It made me feel like Charlie Sheen says he feels, only for a good reason.

My pal Tom Hodges put it best: dogs help find bombs and people, they help the blind & infirm get around, and they help sick kids.  No animals deserve cruelty or abandonment, just like people don't, and anyone in need, human or otherwise, deserves the help of those that are in a position to provide it.

I just received this comment about this journal post.  I include my reply because I have well & truly HAD IT with people criticizing me every time I help a dog, when there are humans in need out there that I am OBVIOUSLY ignoring:

"Dude, people are dying in Japan and you're concerned about a dog?! This is just...wrong."

My response:

"Well, "Dude", before I tell you to go fuck yourself, please bear in mind that this Dogs In Need post was made the day before the Japanese earthquake/tsunami, and since I'm not a psychic I can't predict the natural disasters that will follow my posts, rendering them "just... wrong".

Please take the time to completely read a post before commenting, and hopefully you'll note the dates and corresponding sequence of events. I'm not taking down this post simply because of a human tragedy elsewhere: this dog still needs a home. One doesn't turn their back on someone the minute someone else has greater need.

And before you get bent out of shape over your perception that I care more about a dog than people in Japan, please bear in mind that I'm doing my part by doing head sketches for relief donations at the upcoming C2E2 show in Chicago this weekend (as well as WonderCon 2 weeks after that). I raised $4000 last year for dog rescue, and as far back as Hurricane Katrine, where we raised over $3700 for the Red Cross.  I help humans and animals alike, so please don't call me "Dude", as if you know me personally, and don't presume to judge me. Some folks' posts lead me to believe there might be some confusion about exactly how the Sketch List works.  So... I'll go over it again.

We start a list, and keep it open for the first 10 minutes of the first day.  It is NOT the first 10 people.  The Sketch List is not First Come, First Serve (I'll get to 'why' in a second)...

The Sketch List does not open until the convention doors open!  Why?  The Sketch List is for Attendees!  Anyone with a Professional or Exhibitor or Guest badge has an unfair advantage over fans who are waiting outside, sometimes for hours, sometimes in cold weather.

Anyone, regardless of their badge, can get on the List!  

BUT!  

If you are wearing a a Professional or Exhibitor or Guest badge and we see you hanging out near my table waiting to get on the list - you are cheating and you will NEVER GET YOUR SKETCH.  It's gotta be fair FOR EVERYONE.  And 10 minutes is enough time for you to get from the doors to my table.

When I do the sketches, I do NOT DO THEM IN ORDER.  I jump around the list.  Why?  Because people run to my table to get on the list, and sometimes people have gotten hurt in the rush.  NO RUNNING!  I jump around the list, and if you are #40, you have the same chances as #1, and that's the fairest thing I can think of.

Sketches cost between $200 and $400.

There's no perfect situation, and believe me I've tried everything in the last 20 years.  I cannot draw everyone's sketch, because that would require people to not bother me while I'm drawing.  THAT doesn't happen because people want stuff signed, they want to talk to me, they want to show their art.  I can't please everyone, there's not enough time.

To recap:

1. The Sketch List opens when the show starts on the first day, and is open for 10 minutes.
2. I jump around the List, so there's no reason to be first on the List.
3. If you use your Professional or Exhibitor or Guest badge to hang out near my table before the doors open, you will not get your sketch.
4. I can't do everyone's sketch, so it's chance you have to take.  I can only draw so much.
5. Sketches run from $200 to $400

Hey, if anyone gets the chance, check out the latest issue of GAMEINFORMER, it's issue 209.

It features BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY, the sequel to 2009's BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM - one of the best superhero games ever made and certainly the best Batman game EVER.  I could Silent Takedown all night.

When I saw the preview trailer months ago, I'd hoped that Catwoman would work her way into the game, and the latest issue of GAMEINFORMER has many pics from the sequel, including several shots of Selina!  I have to say: I LOVE IT.  She looks so fabulous, exactly as cool as I personally would want to see her come to life.  The braintrust over at RockSteady deserve a big round of Guinness for doing us Selina Kyle fans such a solid.  She really looks wonderful!

Batman, Two-Face, and the Joker look brilliant, too.  But I don't love them the way I love our Feline Fatale.

Finally!  

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 is a distant memory, and life slowly returns to normal.  It was a lot of work trying to get ready for the show, and once there… I must admit that the con wasn't the nightmare that SDCC 2009 was.  While SDCC is never actually FUN anymore (it hasn't been for us since the early 2000s), it wasn't the soul-draining siege it was the year before.

I would like to thank everyone who came by and said hi, bought stuff, and donated to our dog rescue charity.  We raised $3175.00 to help Old English Sheepdogs (our personal puppeez of choice), and while there, we found out that a rescue had come in with heartworm, requiring $1200 to take care of.  So, God bless all ya's… we helped a sick, neglected, and abandoned life.  Hopefully, a new home can be found and this dog can live a happy life while making someone else's life a joy as well.

I did a few interviews at SDCC 2010, one for ComicVine.com and one for MSNBC.  Google away and see if my sorry-looking puss has been posted yet.  I also filmed an interview for a documentary about collectors, and I may have been a little tipsy from drinking my lunch.  As soon as I can post WHAT the documentary was for, I'll let you all know.  Apparently, I'm a real treat when my tongue is loosened with Dutch courage….

My art book COVER RUN is officially sold out, and the book has already gone back to press for a 2nd printing.  I thank you all.  Warts and all, the book is a little bit of me, and I'm glad so many of you found something to enjoy in its pages.

REGARDING THE BOOK:

We will have a limited-edition version of the book for sale at my table, which will cost a more than cover price.  If you want a regular edition, go to Stuart Ng Books' booth at the show (I am trying to get that booth number for you) or buy it at a bookstore if you can find one.


REGARDING THE PANEL:

If you want to attend Adam's panel on sketching with gray scale Copic markers or Allison's on working with the color Copics, these will be ticketed entry panels. We will have the tickets at our booth, for free. One per person per panel, please; no exceptions. Just swing by our booth, number 4607 to get a ticket for either or both panels. They may not last very long as seating is limited, so please if you really have your heart set on attending either of these, do not put off getting a ticket from us for the event. Should you get a ticket, and decide later that you do not want to attend, please think of your fellow fans and return the ticket to our table so we can give it to someone else that may want to attend.


REGARDING THE SKETCH LIST:

Adam will not be taking a sketch list at San Diego Comic Con; the show is simply too busy for any quantity of sketching to be accomplished. Instead, two opportunities to request a sketch are being auctioned off on ebay. Please check there for more information.


REGARDING FREE HEAD SKETCHES:

Recently Adam has been doing these at shows. We are uncertain if he will be able to do them at San Diego Comic Con. The signing lines get pretty long, and head sketches take time. Also, there is a nasty tendency for people to see something for "free" and want it not even knowing who Adam is or what he does. So what we are planning is the following: Adam will do one head sketch request per person during the allotted signing times, provided its not too busy or hectic. This head sketch will be done in return of a $5 donation to the Old English Sheepdog Rescue Network of the South East*. But whether or not Adam will have the time to do these sketches will ultimately be a judgement call on our part. If the signing line looks long, we will have to decline the head sketch request and humble ask you to please try during a different, less busy signing time. We ask that you please respect our judgement on this; the con gets very busy, very crazy, very quickly. We do want to make everyone as happy as possible, but there's only so much we can do for so many people in the limited time we have at the show.  So if you ask for a head sketch and we politely explain that there are too many people in line for Adam to be able to do them, we'd be grateful for your understanding. Lastly; if you want a head sketch please bring your own paper or a sketchbook. We will not have paper on hand for Adam to sketch on.


REGARDING SIGNING

People often ask what Adam charges for signing; NOTHING! Adam will sign for free. In return, we ask that you keep the amount of items you ask to be signed to a reasonable amount. If you have multiple copies of the same item, and are asking that they all be signed, we will assume it is for re-sale and will decline to sign them unless specific arrangements are made before hand. If you have what looks like a veritable mountain of books or trading cards to be signed and there is a long line of people waiting, we will ask you to pick the 10 you'd like to have signed and will politely decline to sign the rest due to time constraints. ADam will limit his signings to things he has actually worked on, and that have been legitimately published. He will not sign images printed out from your computer, or garage kit statues based on his drawings, to name only a couple of items that do not fit the signing criteria.

Here's my convention schedule for rest of the year, if anyone wants to try to see me at a show:


July 21 - 25: San Diego Comic-Con International
Aug. 28, 29: Baltimore Comic-Con
Oct. 8 - 10: New York Comic-Con
Oct. 16: FallCon, Minnesota

I will be signing autographs, doing sketches (except San Diego!), and all the usual stuff!

I will have sketchbooks and prints for sale!

If you want a sketch, get on the Sketch List in the FIRST 10 MINUTES on the first day! You might get lucky! Except at San Diego!

COVER RUN, my first coffee-table book, is in comic stores today.  The book will available in all book stores next Tuesday.  We tried our best to make the book as fat as the 208 pages would allow, and I hope everyone who gets one is happy with their purchase.

I will be attending a "Whee!  A Book!!" celebration of sorts in Charlotte this weekend, with the fine folks who put on the HeroesCon every year.  Feel free to come by, see one of the best comic shops in America, and say 'Hi!'

Hello, folks.  HeroesCon in Charlotte this last weekend was a lot of fun as always, as well as a ton of work.  I think I had more panels and scheduled ‘stuff’ than any other show in recent years, and while fun, it affected my ability to get a lot of sketching done.  My apologies to any disappointed folks: I’ll try to get you next time.

We just received advance copies of my DC Comics coffee-table book COVER RUN, and I hope you’ll be happy with the final product.  I will be having a book launch party at Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find, in Charlotte, NC, on Saturday, June 26, from noon til 2 PM.  Come on by and enjoy the fun.  There will a more casual bash the evening before (June 25th), starting at 7 PM.  Come by either time, hang out, check out some great comics in one of the best shops around, and maybe even buy my book.
