Tinkerbell Detail by AdamHughes Tinkerbell Detail by AdamHughes
A detail of my Tinkerbell sketch, [link] colorized in about 15 minutes while eating lunch. Photoshop is the best.

Because some people are misunderstanding what this is:
I did a convention sketch of Tinkerbell, using grayscale COPIC markers. One day, while having lunch, I qucily colorized it. It's not some boast about my PS skills; I was just making a point about how easy it is to colorize a piece when all the hard work has been down in the grayscale stage.

Wow. The part I love most when a piece is done in grayscale marker before colorizing is the unique texture you get.

Saucy face!!!

Greyscale really is key! If the greyscale is good, you pretty much can't ruin it when you put in colours... Nice detail on the face and her nose :)

She is lovely♥

Ahnnn... I teach drawing (anatomy, perspective and fashion design) and I graduated in Fine Arts, Engraving. I though I was only color illiterate at first. Then I started thinking I was color blind. However, separating color from shading was stupid, really stupid. Well, thank you so much for sharing your art with unworthy people like me: color illiterate, color blind and stupid.

1st- if u dont have any kids please adopt me... i wash your car in exchange of some osmosis knowledge.
2nd- the marker tinkerbell is just insane...i love the power and the tricks of the cold/warm markers. i know it must be as natural and easy as killing moskito to you but its still awsome...its like...for real..its still really hard for me to control those damn markers.
anyway.. i wish i can draw like this when i grow up...
thanks for your legacy!cuz art never goes away.

AdamHughes Featured By Owner Feb 20, 2010

jessasketch Featured By Owner Feb 18, 2010
Adam - what are you doing in photoshop to change the color of the outlines (like the brown around her face, dark pink around her lips, etc)?
AdamHughes Featured By Owner Feb 20, 2010
I just use a brush set on Lighten, and I pick a color (on the lips, or the outline) that is still dark, but not that muddy black that you get when you start converting Grayscale scans to color.
I then just use the Brush to paint away those darkest, muddy black pixels and leave a nice rich dark color. Since it's set to Lighten, it doesn't affect any pixels lighter than the one I've selected as my Foreground color.

Thanks so much, Adam!

You usually do a great job Mr. Hughes, possibly one of the most iconic artists in contemporary comics. But with this detail shot, I find the eyes too wide apart and slanted, and the chin too small, which reminds me of some physical features found in people with Down syndrome.

I am sorry for saying this and I hope the community and the artist can accept my apology for stating my opinion of how I see this picture.
xthumbtakx Featured By Owner Feb 17, 2010
i like it, but this tinkerbell looks 'plump-er'.. :p

Just becasue this face doesn't have huge eyes and typical features doesn't mean its a genetic disorder, its called facial variation.
