Supergirl, 1986 by AdamHughes Supergirl, 1986 by AdamHughes
Here's an antique, from the dim mists of the 20th century. Berol Prismacolor pencil on typing paper. I was 20. Hopefully there has been some improvement.

Been a long time, coming here to meet you; on a crooked road.

sadly after the 80's ended, Supergirl's costume and hair never looked that good ever again....infact nothing has ever even come close.

Wow, this is awesome to see. That was the first version of Supergirl that I remember seeing. I had a Superman coloring book with Supergirl in it as well, although it might have been a sticker book too? I can't remember but I remember this Supergirl being in it. Anyway, this is pretty great, and it shows you were still pretty damn good at 20.

Beautiful and the detail is superb!
(On a side note, I am cracking up at how her costume has been shrinking over the years.)

This really gives me hope; I'm 20 and draw about as well as this now. Maybe one day, I can be at your level, if I keep practicing. Love your art Adam, you are the biggest inspiration to me!

You should do an updated version of this pic. A before and after kinda thing. That's what I've been doing lately with some of my art lately. Its a cool way to see how far you've come as an artist.

I like that you posted this. Every one has to start some where and a lot of artists are too proud to show their progress.
Looks like you were well on your way to developing your "style" at 20 :-)

Don't ask me; I only LIVED in the 1980s. There was some kinda trend with headbands during the whole aerobics craze, so Supergirl got an 80s look at the time.

This is my favorite Supergirl.
It's gotta be the HEADBAND.

I was sad when they killed her in Crisis on Infinite Earths, though.

I absolutely love seeing old art from artists I admire.

It makes me feel a little more happy about my outlook. You were 20 in '86. I am 22 now. If I keep busting my ass, I will be good at what I do like you are good at what you do :)

Thank you very much for sharing this.

All I got outta that was, you're not even as old as that drawing. That makes grampa's back hurt....

;-)

Seriously, thank you, and yes, ass-busting is the key to the kingdom. Please keep drawing your heart out. I'm still busting my own personal ass, trying to get better and better.

:-)

A Super-duper-goofy-girly! And the "paper" has had a little "visit" of mice, too! in the time since then.
Improvement, nah you dont really mean that do you :giggle: ooh you do, you do! and you certainly have, by lightyears of improvement!
Her smile and the earth behind is o.k. but her PopEye-like arms ... eh! BTW it´s one of the harder poses to draw, especially when doing a female species , and :faint:that´s what you do best, I think! Not neglecting to say your latter (unique and personal) lineart-style is aspiring.
P.S. that you can show earlier works not up-to the so-called standard, shows a dedicated master! Thanks for encouraging the masses, sir!
