Indy Sketchcards by AdamHughes Indy Sketchcards by AdamHughes
Here's a bunch of my Indiana Jones sketch cards. All done on blank 2.5" X 3.5" cards, with Pitt pens and Copic markers. A lot of fun! I wish I'd scanned these in the order I drew them; you can see how I started out crummy but got better with practice.

These Indy cards are great and I think printed out and used as the backdrop for my Indiana Jones prop display would look cool.

Love all the Indy sketch cards- there's always one or two that always come up and stand out a bit more for me, and on this set it's the Belloq on the second row. The shading on this one is just wonderful.

The next time an Indiana Jones comic comes out, you need to be the man drawing it!

wow, the melting face card is stunning! I wish I was at that point, to know instinctively which lines to keep, which to blend, and what looks naturally like what I want. ENVYYYY

Um... can you point out where the "crummy" bits are? All I see is AH! awesomeness (especially Mr. Nazi Face Melts Off Dude)

I really like how even when you are drawing things based on actual models, you can still add such great expressions.

Was there a conscious effort not to have any full swastikas in these cards...?

I just finished playing Lego Indiana Jones, and there's no Nazi paraphernalia in it. It makes me wonder if eventually the Nazis will be removed from every form of the movies. I really liked that historical element :\.

Yeah, sometimes the licensors can get weird about there being swastikas on the images, even though it's historically accurate AND from the films. I didn't want any of my cards rejected, so I made the swastikas partials. Afterwards, I found out that none of the cards were rejected for having swastikas.

Wow, I've been playing Lego Indy for a couple of months now, and never noticed that. That said, it isn't exactly essential in what is, to be fair, a kid's game. The bad guys are all dressed in black and look like Lego approximations of Nazis, and the main baddies all look like they should. Removing the Nazi iconography is just playing it safe, being a little more culturally sensitive, and being mindful of the age rating.

As for the films, given Spielberg only fiddled with ET to make things a little smoother, I don't think Lucas could convince him to start removing things to make it more friendly and kid-safe. Ford's also seemingly against kiddifying the movies, so that's another thing. To remove the Nazis is to remove some pretty big chunks of the films, like that bit at the book-burning in Crusade, where he meets Hitler briefly, and other stuff.
