Hammer Of The Gods by AdamHughes Hammer Of The Gods by AdamHughes
Client: Mike Oeming
Media: pencil, ink, and Adobe Photoshop

Another oldie! This one might actually be from the 20th century.... the late 1900s!

It's a cover I did for Michael Avon Oeming's HAMMER OF THE GODS comic. I like the minimalist approach, and the simple solution for the trees in the background. It really sells that snowy Nordic vibe, I feels....

Hi Adam, This was the first piece I saw of yours and it was one of those "Wow! Who the hell is this guy?" moments. Followed your fabulous work ever since but I still love this one for it's muted colours and the hilarious giant's expression. It was meant to be funny, right? Paul Cemmick (fan)

It is a beautiful picture, as well as all gallery. I quite often admire that is presented in it, and each time I find something new and interesting in the way you image hair, clothes, faces, of your colors and lines. Its incredible!

Simple is refreshing in an age of "over-imaging." I like the atmospheric perspective on the trees.

Haha, I've looked at this piece so many times, and I just now noticed the severed body on the ground. I like how well it blends in.

Very nice work! I am loving the details here, especially the grimaced look of pain frozen into the giant's now-dead head =D

This is probably one of my favorite images from you. It has so many great elements. Places for your eye to rest and places of detail to focus on (75/25). And implied space, just using value changes. Inspiring!

One of my co-workers got your book. It's great to have your thoughts along with the covers. I'm going to have to pick up a copy too.

This is one of my favorite covers for all the reasons previously mentioned. But I think my favorite part is that slightly put out "OK so now what should I do with this" look she has.

Classic

Loved this when it came out and love it now. I really enjoy when your art is flat colored. It really brings out the strength of structure in your art. This piece does a fantastic job of capturing the gray and somber mood in Oeming's norse influenced tales. Shiny.
