The cover to CATWOMAN 67, with the original 'Dr. Strangelove' lettering that DC shot down. I thought it was cool, and fit the feeling of the issue...

Thanks to urdsama for the Russian translation at the bottom. It reads "Catwoman - Out of Time".

When I handed it in, DC asked me what the Russian phrase was at the bottom, and I told them it read: "Marvel Comics blows dead bears".

They thought I was serious.

***Just for the record, Marvel Comics does NOT, in fact engage in ursine fellatio (living or dead), I just said that to scare my editor for 2 seconds. I grew up on Marvel Comics; in fact, I was a Marvel zombie before the term was coined.

Love the background wash. Reminds me of Alphonso Mucha style (I think he was Russian, too?)

Your boss' at DC sound hilarious. They're probably on a translation website now trying to figure out what the Russian really says. haha!

Wow, I really LOVE the old feel you have here, the colouring works very well... I don't why they shot down the lettering, probably because it's not "Marvel enough" for them.
I doubt that they had enough brains to tell you to make it more blocky or whatever to make it look more constructivist because it's Russian... I mean, there's a lot of Constructivism in the design already-- okay I'll stop babbling already... :|
