Black Queen Silhouette by AdamHughes Black Queen Silhouette by AdamHughes
This is a fun variation.

When I was doing the flames on the Black Queen litho, I had the background on one Layer, Jean on a second, and I was doing the flame highlights on a third.

For no good reason, I turned the Jean Grey Layer invisible, and was interested to see that the highlights still described her shape. I filled in the Jean Grey Layer with black, and it made for a really neat-looking silhouette.

Sideshow liked it, and used it as a teaser image. I'm including it as a neat little oddity.

This has such a dynamic pose--that despite the silhouette--you can tell so much about the character. I love the lighting too!

Hi. I cannot impart any usage rights to this, because it's technically the property of Marvel Comics (which is now owned by Disney), and I did the piece, under licenese, for Sideshow Collectibles.
You'd have to get permission from either of them.

Adam,

Thanks for your reply. Do you have a good way to get a hold of the right person to ask for this permission?

Sory about the delay.

No, I don't, sorry. You'd have to try to contact their respective legal departments.

I had tried to colour a batgirl pic I drew a while back and turned off my pencils layer, and it gave it a paper cut out look which I quite enjoyed :)

If you combine the two images into an animation, like a Flash video, it ought to really be fun to see!

Your real good at not letting us see you sweat cause I can't recall seeing any work you created that I didn't like...lol. I was wondering if you drew the flames freehand or did you create a brush?

I have a few custom brushes that I made for organic things like fire, water, clouds, smoke, etc.... I then just mess around with shapes created by using Blur (Tool & Filter), Smear, and such.

Huh... I didn't know you colored it that way. It makes total sense, just never thought to keep the highlights on another layer... good to know...

:iconadamhughes:

I only did it that way because I wasn't sure if the highlights would work, so I wanted to do them on another Layer, just in case....
